Meet the folks who make it all happen. We see big potential in every moment, & care deeply about what we do every day.
Dr. Rod Van Horn grew up in rural New York State, where his family raised Quarter horses, Brittany spaniels, poultry, and pigs. He was always fascinated when the veterinarian came to visit—the vet would even take the time to show young Dr. Van Horn what he was doing and why. As he continued on through school, Dr. Van Horn’s interests in medicine and science started to blossom. Before long, one thing became quite clear: a career in the world of veterinary medicine was the natural choice!
Dr. Van Horn attended Northern Arizona University for his undergraduate studies before earning his Doctorate at Oregon State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1988. He started practicing in a mixed-animal facility in Arizona after graduation, where he would remain for the next four years. Once a classmate of his who worked in Omaha invited Dr. Van Horn and his wife to take a look at the area, they were hooked—the Van Horns committed to the move, and designed and built the Omaha Animal Medical Group facility from the ground up (literally!). Dr. Van Horn has been serving the pets and animal owners of the area ever since.
Medically, Dr. Van Horn has a passion for veterinary dentistry and loves educating pet parents on this very important aspect of animal health. He’s even a member of the American Veterinary Dental Society, and also holds membership status with the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Animal Hospital Association. Most of all, though, Dr. Van Horn enjoys being a first-hand witness to the incredible bonds between pets and their owners; for him, knowing that he’s made a positive impact on a family is the ultimate reward.
When he isn’t caring for pets here at the clinic or spending time with his wife and two grown children, Dr. Van Horn enjoys fishing, camping, practicing archery, shooting, and serving as a leader in the Boy Scouts. He’s been active in the organization for over 25 years now—his son is an Eagle Scout, and his daughter achieved her Silver award in the Girl Scouts—and continues to help young men grow through the program. Dr. Van Horn has served in a leadership role at all levels, and currently serves on the Council’s President Cabinet.
