DIY Holiday Gifts for Cats

Have you finished your shopping yet? Don’t forget to pick up some things for your cat! After all, Fluffy is an important part of the family! If you’re trying to save money, or just like making things, why not make some of your pet’s gifts? Here, an Omaha NE vet lists some DIY gifts for kitties.

Cat Tower

To turn an old stepladder into a cat tower, just add smooth planks to the steps to widen them out. Then, wrap it in carpet or sisal rope. You can also do this with a metal storage rack or a bookshelf. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, use part of a real tree, or start from scratch using lumber or PVC pipe.

Catnip Mice

This one is super simple! Cut two identical mouse shapes into a cute piece of fabric. Sew them together, leaving just enough of an opening for you to put some catnip in through. Once it’s stuffed, sew the hole closed. Voila!

Window Seat

Does your cat spend a lot of time looking out the window? If so, she’s in good company! Make Fluffy a comfy window seat by adding a smooth plank to your windowsill to widen it out. You can also attach a pet bed, using Velcro or double-sided tape.

Beds

You can make Fluffy a cute bed out of a hard-shell suitcase or hatbox. Just prop it open, and use paint or varnish to make it look nice. Then, add some comfy bedding. Another cute option is to just put a comfy blanket into a cute crate or wicker box.

Cat Mat

Turning an old litterbox into a planter is a great DIY gift. Clean the litterbox thoroughly, and then add soil and cat grass seeds. You’ll need to give it time to grow, so get started a few weeks before the holiday.

Treats

Treats are great purr activators! Pick up a few containers of your kitty’s favorite snacks. You can also give Fluffy some canned tuna, or some shredded deli meat. Cat milk is another good option. If you like baking, you can even make your pet some snacks. Look online for specific recipes. Just be sure to only use ingredients that are safe for your feline pal.
